Despite all the COVID restrictions (Greece/Crete is on the “Amber” list for the UK – so technically you “should not travel” to Greece and you have a set of COVID tests + self-quarantine to perform when back to the UK), we decided to book ~10 days in Crete, in the West Coast more specifically.
Crete was a discovery for both of us and I can only highly recommend. Crete is the Greek largest island and less trendy/buzzy (and so much more affordable) than Mykonos or Santorini. You can find some stunning beaches (probably the most beautiful and large sandy beaches I have seen in Europe so far!) as well as amazing countryside and mountainous landscapes for unique hiking experiences.
While we normally tend to balance a little bit more beach time with other activities (city visits/hiking), this trip has been over indexed on the beach side as we really needed to relax and enjoy the sun!
